Porth Kidney Beach
- Overview
- More Info
Tucked away at the edge of the Hayle Estuary, Porth Kidney Beach offers a stunning stretch of golden sand that feels wonderfully untouched. At low tide, the beach expands dramatically, revealing a wide-open expanse that reaches almost a mile into St Ives Bay — perfect for those seeking peace and space.
Despite being close to the popular town of St Ives, Porth Kidney remains quiet, making it a hidden gem along the Cornish coast. Just beyond the Carrack Gladden headland lies Carbis Bay, and the scenic South West Coast Path links the two beaches, providing a beautiful walk with coastal views.
Behind the beach, you’ll find rolling sand dunes and the historic West Cornwall Golf Club — reputed to be Cornwall’s oldest. There are no facilities or car parks nearby, so access is only by foot, either from Lelant Railway Station or via the coast path near St Uny Church. Please note, some routes include steps and uneven ground.
Seasonal lifeguard patrols usually run in the summer months (check for current dates). Due to strong currents, swimming is not advised near the estuary mouth.
Porth Kidney is dog friendly all year round, though dogs must be kept on a lead when using the path from St Uny Church to the beach.
